I intend having my DNA tested in the near future. With a bit of luck, there will be a bit of African ancestry there, which could be a nice little earner.

No, because in Grauniadworld only the British were ever involved in slavery. Other countries were merely practising an early version of social service.

You error is that you have confused a propagandist (Olusoga) with a real academic historian. Simply look up 'Beachy Head Woman' and his false claims about her origins to discover how utterly discredited this person is, even if he is the BBCs historian of choice.

@desmondroberts6034 I think the point here is that David Olusoga is condemnatory of slavery when Europeans, or more particularly. the wicked English/British, are involved, but seems unable or unwilling to accept the participation of African tribal leaders or Arab traders. I don't think anyone has suggested that slavery as you describe is acceptable. You are, perhaps deliberately, avoiding the point about Olusoga.

@steveturner6770 You don'r seem all that interested in facts yourself.

@harryricochet8134 Try again. Population of the United States in 1948, 147 million. Population of India in 1948, 358 million.

@steveturner6770 It is better to be anonymous than simply wrong, mon vieux.

Surely you know the the British Empire was responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs?
1
Not really. France actually abolished the Slave Trade in Mainland France and French colonies on 27 April, 1848. Simply look it up.

I would if the policies proclaimed in manifestos bore even the vaguest resemblence to what happens when they attain office.
1
@harryricochet8134 Don't worry, mon vieux. I know I am right, and you know now that you are wrong. No amount of squirming can alter that fact.

@Jack-fs2im I think the detail about India alone more than served the purpose.

@Jack-fs2im Not what?

@anorthernsoul5600 Olusoga has nothing more than a B.A. in History, from Liverpool. His postgraduate qualification is in Broadcast Journalism, from Leeds. He is no more an academic historian than I am an International Cricketer, though the postgrad. qualification is probably appropriate for his chosen career as a race propagandist, I suppose.

@anorthernsoul5600 David Starkey is a real academic. To compare Olusoga with him borders on the lunatic. Which perhaps explains the BBC opinion.

According to the Global Slavery Index, Haiti has an estimated 237,700 enslaved persons making it the country with the second-highest prevalence of slavery in the world, behind only Mauritania. That was from 2014.
