  1.  @sindibadterry9058  I presume you mean General Charles Gordon. An army led by Mohammed Ahmad, known as the 'Mahdi' did. After Khartoum fell, all adult males in Khartoum were murdered, and the women & children sold to slave traders, by the way. Gordon commanded a small force of Sudanese troops, around 2,000 strong, but had no British troops. That was in January, 1885. How is any of the above relevant to the Battle of Omdurman, except as a scene-setter?

Apart, of course, from butchering the entire Sudanese garrison, every male civilian in the city, and sending the women and children off into slavery. The British & Egyptians, 8,000 British & 17,000 Egyptians and Sudanese, defeated an army of 52,000 extreme religious fanatics.

  14. I am struggling to recall those 'many times' the French 'crushed' the British. Blenheim, Malplaquet, Ramillies, Vimiero, Talavera, Salamanca, Vittoria, and Waterloo, to name a few. Were they really all French victories? As to battles at sea, better not go there?

  19. Presumably, you aren't aware that the bulk of the kicking was done by a France ruld by an absolute monarch, without even a semblance of democratic government? Unlike, of course, a Constitutional Monarchy on the British model. I had heard that educational standards in the US were in decline, but hadn't realised until now how serious the situation was.
