  1.  @sindibadterry9058  I presume you mean General Charles Gordon. An army led by Mohammed Ahmad, known as the 'Mahdi' did. After Khartoum fell, all adult males in Khartoum were murdered, and the women & children sold to slave traders, by the way. Gordon commanded a small force of Sudanese troops, around 2,000 strong, but had no British troops. That was in January, 1885. How is any of the above relevant to the Battle of Omdurman, except as a scene-setter?

  2. Whereas the Mahdi, after capturing Khartoum, was the epitome of chivalry. Apart, of course, from butchering the entire Sudanese garrison, every male civilian in the city, and sending the women and children off into slavery. The British & Egyptians, 8,000 British & 17,000 Egyptians and Sudanese, defeated an army of 52,000 extreme religious fanatics.
