Ironic, really. Some ten years later, many of the aristocrats commanding the victorious French forces were themselves losing their heads.

I am struggling to recall those 'many times' the French 'crushed' the British. Blenheim, Malplaquet, Ramillies, Vimiero, Talavera, Salamanca, Vittoria, and Waterloo, to name a few. Were they really all French victories? As to battles at sea, better not go there?

I suspect everyone with actual knowledge would downvote the manner in which the surrender was portrayed.

Presumably, you aren't aware that the bulk of the kicking was done by a France ruld by an absolute monarch, without even a semblance of democratic government? Unlike, of course, a Constitutional Monarchy on the British model. I had heard that educational standards in the US were in decline, but hadn't realised until now how serious the situation was.
