  3.  @jochannon  The monitor in the Mediterranean in 1940-41, HMS Terror, was part of the Inshore Squadron, used for bombarding shore targets, until sunk in February, 1941. When the newly built Roberts arrived in January 1942, she too was used for shore bombardment. Monitors were never used as convoy escorts. Mediterranean convoys were composed of fast ships, whereas monitors were extremely slow (HMS Terror only managed 12 knots when new, and by 1940 was down to single figures) and cumbersome.
