If he was such a 'genius' what went so badly wrong in the Lorraine campaign/Metz?

Would you like to read a US Army analysis of his Lorraine Campaign? Genius is not really the conclusions it reached.

As he only became relevant from August, 1944, how did you come to that conclusion?

Sadly, too many people have seen the movie 'Patton -Lust for Glory,' based on Ladislas Farago's ridiculous hagiography of Patton. Much like other Hollywood travesties, they think it must be true because it is in the film.

How can you compare an army commander with the successful commander of an Army Group?
2
Seriously? He only actually played a minor, or irrelevant, part, until August 1944.

How exactly would the war in Europe have ended in 1943?

'During his honey moon with Beatrice he toured western Europe with a travel map and detailed the geography as if anticipated WW2.' As he married in 1910, that was clever!

Based on a novel written by a journalist?

George C. Scott was absolutely brilliant. Probably the best comedy performance of his career. Michael Bates, who lampooned Montgomery in the same movie, was also a great comic actor, subsequently famed for his performances as Blamire in 'Last of the Summer Wine' and, blacked up (!), in 'It Ain't Half Hot, Mum.' I vividly remember seeing the movie in a cinema years ago. Not many people in , but those who were there were rocking with laughter.
