@becky2235 It was called the 'Liverpool Care Pathway.' I think the NHS got the idea from events in 1930s Germany.

Problem with things like this is that a 'right' inevitably morphs into an 'obligation.'

@Senbei01 Sadly, that is what tends to happen when such laws are introduced. There was a case in, I believe, Austria, some years ago, when a group of nurses began by helping on their way people who were terminally ill and in great pain, but ended by removing anyone who they perceived to be a nuisance by asking for a drink in the middle of the night.

@paulwhateley7850 'That’s just a negative perception - legislation can mandate safeguards. It isn’t hard.' In some countries, such as Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands, a terminal diagnosis is not even a requirement, and voluntary euthanasia is additionally allowed. Read the post from 'invisible' for the reality of what this Bill might easily create.

@nickmannion3879 The Bill is to be put forward by Labour MP Kim Leadbeater. So, it isn't a LibDem or a Tory after all. It seems that someone is 'one eyed and ill informed' doesn't it?

@craig361 The Winter Fuel Allowance was introduced by a Labour government. Throughout their time in office, the 'evil' Tories continued the payment. Withdrawal of the payment was just about the first thing Dear Rachel did. Certainly, some pensioners don't need it, but presumably you would argue that those just above the benefits limit, who are already struggling, are merely collateral damage as the Dear Leader creates his idea of Utopia?

They will, however, happily stroll through the voting lobbies in obedience to whatever instructions the Whips give them.
