  2. Scharnhorst & Gneisenau were both under repair in Kiel until December, 1940. Hipper was operational. Prinz Eugen didn't complete Baltic training until May 1941, and there were only 10 destroyers, of which three were repairing/refitting in September, 1940. Admiral Scheer was undergoing trials in the Baltic until late October, and Lutzow had been torpedoed in April 1940 and repairs weren't complete until early 1941. To all intents and purposes, there wasn't a Kriegsmarine in September 1940.
