One Job? What do you mean.

Californian only had one operator, who wasn't able to be on watch 24 hours a day for several days.
1
Even in 1912, wireless operators were not expected to work 24 hour days.
1
Most ships at the time still didn't have any wireless at all.

Californian had only one Marconi operator. He was not expected to work 24 hour days, and simply switched the set off at his usual time.

You sure? When was that tested?

@SportBookSocial As I understand it, USS America was subjected to a series of explosions which were designed to simulate underwater attacks, but not actually to hits by actual missiles or torpedoes.
1
@SportBookSocial It is the truth. Define 'supercarrier.' The term is generally accepted to have been first applied to USS Forrestal, commissioned in 1955. No such carrier has ever been hit by a torpedo or a bomb.

@mehere8038 I am saying that the flares Titanic used were the type used to signal distress. As to stopping for the night, Californian did because she was in an area of sheet ice. When asked what the usual procedure when sailing through an area wher icebergs might be encountered, several Master Mariners who gave evidence at the British Inquiry agreed that they would have done as Smith did, which was to instruct lookouts about the situation, but to continue on course.
1
No, because Smith wanted a damage report, and the first one he received from one of his officers greatly under estimated the level of damage.
1
In reality, this was not said. Do you believe that God is both vindictive, and gets his information from movies?
1
Because the Olympics were liners, carrying large numbers of people who needed the ability to move about the ship. Titanic simply suffered a degree of damage far beyond anything for which she was designed, and beyond her capability to survive. Much like Lusitania three years later.
