The fact is that Titanic received a greater degree of damage than her design had anticipated, and still survived for over 2.5 hours. Lusitania, by the way, suffering arguably a lesser degree of damage, sank in 18 minutes. She was not badly designed, either, by the way. Would you seek to criticise that Lusitania was badly designed because Leonard Peskett did not include anti-torpedo bulges?

The problem with these videos is that they all take Tobin Gardiner's book, the myths about opposition to the Fedreral Reserve, and the nonsense claimed by Senan Molony, as holy writ, and don't bother to examine them thoroughly.

  48.  @mehere8038  Yes, at that speed. Lookouts generally only used 'glasses' as they were known to identify objects which had already been spotted. Odd as it may seem, had the lookouts had glasses this might actually have delayed the alarm being given by a few seconds.

When Olympic was in collision with a protected cruiser with a ram bow, only two compartments were breached. Indeed a ship could have been built able to withstand that level of damage, It just wouldn't have been able to carry many passengers, of whatever class.

Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and Aquitania, again, did the same in WW2. Britannic was used as a Hospital Ship, which led her into dangerous waters where the speed which protected the others could not be utilised.

Lord had stopped for the night, but intended to set off again at dawn. SS Californian had a maximum speed of 12-13 knots. Although she may not have been as close as the six miles suggested at the Inquiry, even at twice the distance she might well have been able to reach Titanic before she sank.

When asked what the usual procedure when sailing through an area wher icebergs might be encountered, several Master Mariners who gave evidence at the British Inquiry agreed that they would have done as Smith did, which was to instruct lookouts about the situation, but to continue on course.
