BBC news treated the event as a tragedy. The presenters didn't actually wear sombre clothes with black armbands, whilst solemn martial music played in the background, but it seemed to come rather close to that. I thought her announcement was akin to Captain Smith handing over command of RMS Titanic to Chief Officer Wilde about 90 minutes after her disagreement with the iceberg.
