  1. Isn't the reality more mundane? These 'commentators' and 'academics' cocooned in their conviction that they are the leaders of popular thought, have been horrified to observe the outpouring of grief, or at least respect, emanating from the vast majority of ordinary people, and the subsequent realisation that they are, in reality, a tiny, self-regarding, minority has alarmed them. Hence, the need to comfort themselves by making increasingly bizarre and extreme commernts.
