@petrciperny Well, for a start, it is never a good idea to try to discuss complex matters of diplomacy on the hoof in front of an audience. Churchill and FDR are known to have disagreed on several matters, but were wise enough to keep, and resolve, such differences behind closed doors.

I suspect that people who watched the whole of the interview might well come to a similar conclusion. Needless to say, in Britain the BBC only showed certain edited 'highlights.'

@petrciperny That isn't the point. Zelensky could have made his argument to Trump and Vance behind closed doors, which is usually what diplomats tend to do. Losing his temper in front of a mob of journalists was extremely foolish.

@petrciperny Perhaps you should have watched the whole of the meeting? Zelensky seemed to become heated when Vance referred to diplomacy. Perhaps, as the supplicant, he should simply have said ' Mr. President, might we discuss this privately, rather than in public in front of reporters?' During WW2. Roosevelt and Churchill are known to have had many disagreements, but always managed to resolve them amicably, rather than merely indulging in shouting matches in front of cameras.

It is what is usually expected of a national leader. Unfortunately, our equivalent, Starmer, rarely if ever puts the people of Britain first.

@Vongreimbf109 Er, no he didn't. The American War of Independence ended in 1783, when France was an Absolute Monarchy, under Louis XVI, and Boney was 14 years old.

@Vongreimbf109 Boney sold Louisiana to the US because he needed money to help fund his war of European conquest. He had no interest in Louisiana, but was simply selling off a, to him, useless asset.

'Do you support the ruSSian invasion of Ukraine?' Of course not. But nor do I enjoy the shameful sight of European leaders, including Starmer, seeking to prolong the war because of their private political agenda. Wars generally end at the negotiating table, not on the battlefield, and I have no wish to watch Ukraine fighting to the last Ukrainian, whilst the EU stands by, waving flags.
