  2. True. But the Americans didn't have a big enough army to invade anywhere in the west without the Canadians and the British at their side. Even more relevantly, the Americans historically depended on the Royal Navy to get them to Normandy.

  6.  @craigclemens986  I hope your other figures are more accurate. Certainly, of the troops who carried out the initial landings, 83305 were American and 23000 British. We'll not go into the fact that one of the three Task Forces were escorted by the US Navy, and the other two by the Royal Navy, or the fact that, by the end of the campaign, there were five American & twelve British & Comonwealth divisions ( plus four independent Brigades) involved. I assume you do know why the initial landings were dominated by US troops? Don't be so touchy. Most people are well aware that the campaign waged by the Western Allies was a joint effort.
