  1.  @nickdanger3802  I believe that, up to D + 30, Utah was averaging 8000 tons per day, Omaha 1200 tons per day, & Mulberry B 6750 tons per day. By D + 60, I believe that Omaha had risen ro 10000 tons per day, the other two remaining constant.

  2. By D + 30, Mulberry 'B' was unloading 6750 tons per day, Omaha 1200 tons per day, and Utah 8000 tons per day. As there should have been two Mulberries, rather than only one, these numbers rather suggest that the Mulberrys were indeed necessary.

  3. 'A corollary to this is that the so-called Battle of Britain [ Churchill rhetoric ! ] was a misnomer. Britain was never in serious risk of being invaded by sea.' I agree entirely. The rhetoric about the Battle of Britain was aimed at the United States. Churchill obviously wanted US support, so deliberately painted a David v Goliath image. After all, had he said, 'The Royal Navy is the biggest in the world. Any attempt to cross the Channel by the Germans will result in their annihilation' it would have been likely to generate as much sympathy! Had an invasion been possible, it seems rather unlikely that Churchill would have sent a convoy of reinforcements, including three armoured regiments, to North Africa, which of course, historically, he did, on 22 August, 1940.
