  4. The last time I visited my doctors I was asked a similar question. I said that I identified as an electric tramcar, one of the big double deck ones with eight wheels. I was told not to be silly, and to stop wasting tne doctor's time. My response 'well, you started it' was not well received.

  8. My grandfather served in WW1 and was badly gassed at Passchendaele. He was never really well for the rest of his life. His regiment didn't parade in London either. They were lads from the North West of England who were far more interested in getting home to Manchester.

  13.  @HistoryDenied  I didn't suggest that it did. However, are you trying to argue that, when slavery was widespread at the time, the English/British should have refrained from the practise? It was, and to a degree still is, endemic in Africa. Moreover, compared to the Ottoman Empire and Portugal, the British were mere amateurs. They were, however, among the first to condemn and abolish it. Alas, you are naively trying to impose 21st century values on people from an earlier time. Would you, for example, condemn Marcus Aurelius for not introducing Old Age Pensions into the Roman Empire?

  42.  @david1964.  Of course they didn't need to be invited, but the suggestion that the British government encouraged the process by doing nothing to prevent it does not stand up to scrutiny. Britain & the Commonwealth and Empire had just fought a world war in defence of freedom. The point is that the claim being made that the British government actively advertised for people to come, which now has the unchallengeable status of Holy Writ, is a false one.

His grandfather Nadhem Abdel-Jalil al-Zahawi, was the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq from 1959 to 1960 and Minister of Trade from 1960 to 1963. However, as someone with a BSc degree in chemical engineering from UCL in 1985, he was clearly the ideal person to become Chancellor.

I believe that the BBC's tame propagandist, David Olusoga, remained equally quiet about his celebrated 'Beachy Head Woman' who in his mind was of Sub-Saharan African origin, when DNA analysis demonstrated that she almost certainly came from Cyprus. Still, I suppose Cyprus might have been moved since Roman times?
