@4legsgood Really? Expound your thesis in rather more detail. As I asked, which wars did Churchill monger? Then explain what you actually think Gallipoli was all about, and why Churchill was to blame.

@derekowens1817 Thank you for a sensible comment. The whole reason for the Dardanelles/Gallipoli campaign was far more complex than some of these people seem able to grasp.

@heathercooper6043 I met many when taking my late father to reunions. I don't recall any such comments. In fact, they seemed rather proud of their efforts. So no, I don't believe you.

@derekowens1817 A bit like the Tonypandy myth. Interestingly, there are photographs of a tank in Glasgow. The fact that it was there as part of a fundraising event in January, 1918, doesn't seem to concern these people at all.

Whatever nonsense you choose to believe about Churchill, are you seriously stupid enough to believe that he would have done, or even contemplated, such an action when there were some 2.5 million Indian servicemen fighting for the Allied cause? Actually, the Bengal Famine had a number of causes, among which were the number of refugees from Japanese held areas, the inability to import food from those same areas, stockpiling by hoarders and, perhaps worst of all, the Bengal administration, which tried to minimise the crisis. The worst that could be said of Churchill was that he should have known what was taking place, but didn't. After all, in 1943, he had little else to worry about. You could also add the refusal of FDR to allow the transfer of merchant shipping, by the way. What is without dispute, except by those who choose to blame Churchill for everything since the Black Death, is that once he did find out, he transferred food distribution to the British Indian Army, and had grain convoys diverted from Australia to India. I appreciate, of course, that you won't believe any of this, as it doesn't suit the agenda with which you have been indoctrinated. However, perhaps when you become a little more mature, you might be able to break your programming and learn to think for yourself.

@emceedoctorb3022 Yes. Of course he did. Just as I am really Holy Roman Emperor. You do know that, when inventing a lie, it needs to be a plausible one? For one, 11th Armoured Division was not part of XXX Corps at Market Garden, and thus did not provide the tanks which crossed Nijmegen Bridge. Try Guards Armoured Division next time you make something up. If you had sufficient wit, you might have checked that, perhaps?

Actually, I am proud to claim as one of ancestors Major General John Lambert, one of Cromwell's commanders at the Battle of Preston in 1648, and the commander of the triumphant Parliamentary army at the Battle of Inverkeithing in July, 1651. English, and Republican, sentiment is ingrained deep in my DNA.

@elkpaz560 Most were, but if they were anything like to ones I met at post-war reunions when I took my late father to them, they were overwhelmingly proud of what they achieved.

If it helps, from my own experience, I took my late father (69th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery, present at 2nd Alamein, Mareth, & Salerno, among other actions, to several post War Reunions, amd if the men I met there were typical, they were overwhelmingly proud of what they achieved.

'As to calling you big brain and saying come at me, you are the one claiming a superior intellect towards others.' When did I write that? Please show me. Or rather, please don't. You are getting extremely agitated, and high blood pressure is most undesirable. Indeed, whether I believe you or not is hardly the issue, which is about the feelings of veterans towards their actions during the war, and I remain confident that the opinions I gleaned from many of these people in the post-war era are in the majority.

I ignored your claims about your grandad's record because it was entirely unsupported by any evidence.
