My father's artillery Regiment first saw action at the Second Battle of Alamein, where it shelled German positions in support of 51st Highland Division's attack. Should I live in constant fear that I might receive a letter from the German government demanding compensation be paid to any German family whose forebears were killed, or at least distressed, when dad's 4.5 inch shells landed amongst them?
