The idea of the poppy came about because of a poem written by a Canadian Medical Officer, Lt. Col. John Macrae, and published in December 1915, called 'In Flanders Fields.' The last line, which Charles has forgotten, if he ever knew it, reads :- 'If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.'

@julianpetkov8320 The French equivalent of the Poppy is the Bleuet de France. If you seek to ridicule France, you really need to educate yourself about Verdun in WW1.

@TJspaceman I may be wrong, but I don't think the idea of the black poppy was actually his idea. Don't shoot the messenger simply for pointing it out.
