  1. I do enjoy the use of the word 'Progressive' in modern politics. I wonder if the arrival of Gothic tribes within the borders of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century, resulting in the gradual collapse of Roman civilisation, was similarly viewed as 'progressive' at the time?
