  2.  @logicius  The principle is of 'Equality in Death' which has applied since 1918, but which the Chancellor now appears to have chosen, doubtless from simple ignorance, to overturn.

  3.  @WilfTompkins5546  A lot of Irishmen volunteered for service with the British armed services in WW2. Many were punished by the Irish government after the war.

  7.  @howardsanderson2520  You entirely miss the point. When the concept of Memorials for the Fallen was first considered in 1919, the principle of 'Equality in Death' was accepted. British & Commonwealth/Empire War Memorials in all parts of the world list names, and usually ranks, but they do not refer to religions. Now, it seems our Chancellor, without discussion, seems to prioritise one group over another, which is an insult to those Hindus, Sikhs, Gurkhas, Athiests, Christians, and Jews, who also gave their lives in those wars. A shame that you cannot understand this simple fact.

  8.  @jimjones-bk2is  Try again. You are thinking of American memorials. Those of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission are not made in the shape of any religious symbol. Usually, they contain the name of the soldier, his age, date of death, and his regiment. Some have a cross engraved into the stone, but all headstones are alike in style. I suspect you haven't actually visited a military cemetery, or you would have noticed this feature.

  11.  @jimjones-bk2is  The relevant phrase being 'on our headstones.' Moreover, separate, faith based, commomeration was never a policy pursued by the British/Commonwealth/Empire until Hunt came up with the idea.
