@Excession-h6e Fifty Destroyers, and at a time of war, in order to provide breathing space until new RN escort construction became available. Moreover, the bases were leased, not handed over. What crisis is the Dear Leader facing (apart from obvious ones as a result of his own venality), and who gains anything from this action, except, probably, China?

If I lived on the Falklands I would be rather worried. I believe that David Lammy is negotiating their return to Norway. After all, the Falklands are a few miles north east of the Orkneys, aren't they, David?

@Excession-h6e You certainly don't seem capable of arguing, in the sense of debating, with anyone. Please don't feel under any obligation to respond at all, by the way.

@steveturner6770 'This was negotiated by James Cleverly.' Actually, the previous Tory government had indeed been in negotiations with the Government of Mauritius, but no conclusions had been reached, still less any agreement. The current government's style of 'negotiation' seems to have been to say to the pro-Chinese government of Mauritius, 'Would you like to have the Chagos Islands? Here's some money to take them.'

I believe that he is urging Scots. to return to their ancestral home, of Cornwall.

@candy-le4nh 'Ireland isn't part of The UK, Einstein.' Certainly the Repunlic of Ireland isn't.but can people be sure that David Lammy knows that?

Perhaps it is simply to demonstrate that the 'gifts' he received didn't amount to much after all?

@Excession-h6e Perhaps you don't recall your original comment? 'Churchill did it with a good portion of our Atlantic bases. In return for forty useless destroyers. I say useless, one was. It was nothing short of a miracle they could steer it into the bay, let alone the dry dock gates.' Still less my reply? 'Fifty Destroyers, and at a time of war, in order to provide breathing space until new RN escort construction became available. Moreover, the bases were leased, not handed over.' Evidently not, so perhaps you will enlighten me by explaining which of my facts concerning Churchill was incorrect? Unless you would still prefer to go rambling off at an absurd tangent, of course?

@angr3819 Certainly someone needs to find out a few facts about the Chagos Islands. Perhaps you might try?

@steveturner6770 There is no need to shift the goalposts so frenzedly. You made a false statement; I simply corrected it. Don't get upset. In point of fact, however, do you really believe that the 'indigenious people' of the Chagos will be better off under a Mauritian government? If you do, perhaps you haven't taken account of the views of the Chagos people who live in the UK, and have made their views abundantly clear.

@pikachu6031 Perhaps because Britain is not a true Democracy, but an elected dictatorship, and has been for over 150 years?
