Placing blame on 'the crew' is disgraceful. Any blame belongs to the individual who gave the orders which led to the grounding, not to the crew as a whole. Isn't that what command is all about?

Either certain members of the crew lacked the necessary training, or incorrect orders were given and those members of the crew obeyed them.

I doubt that the New Zealand government will.

'We can't blame the person unless it was intentional.' Don't be silly. Shouldn't incompetence, if that is what this turns out to be, result in disciplinary action?

@MarkZX14R 'Every day we all make errors ... they just don't always end in disaster, but sometimes they nearly do, and sometimes they do.' Do we? I certainly don't. Perhaps because over time I have acquired the training and experience to be able to react to a situation in advance, and to appreciate any potential hazards which may arise. That is why people who rise to positions of authority, especially in the military, should also have progressed through a command structure in which they learned the responsibilities of rank.

More likely, promotion to Captain and a desk job. It is impossible to collide with anything when in command of a desk.

You can thank Jacinda for that. The same Jacinda who now advises Prince William, and who has recently been awarded a damehood.

Perhaps because their Head of State is the reigning monarch of Great Britain?

You don't consider that appointing to the command of a major vessel of the Royal New Zealand Navy someone with no previous command experience might have been something of a questionable decision? Generally, the path to command usually involves progression through more than one vessel, of increasing size/significance. It seems that, for whatever reason, that path was not followed on this occasion.
1
Not necessarily. But in this case it seems someone lacking in command experience might have been appointed.

Is the Minister actually working the Admiral like a ventriloquist's dummy? May I also add that, surely, references to 'the crew' are rather disingenuous. Decisions about course corrections, etc., are surely not made by 'the crew' as a group, but by an authority figure within the crew.

I trust that her promotion from Commander direct to Rear Admiral will not be delayed as a result?
