@ritzvillelumber5122 What exactly did the British do, or not do, at Tarawa? By the way, Lend Lease was paid back by the British, the last payment, of $83.3 million, was made in December, 2006.
As to technology, perhaps you had forgotten radar, sonar/asdic, self-sealing fuel tanks, plastic explosives, Manhattan project scientists, the cavity magnetron, Hedgehog, Squid, jet engines, HF/DF, fighter control rooms on carriers, and, of course, Bletchley Park?

Going back to your original post, firstly the United States did not 'give' the (actually) 50 destroyers to anyone. They were transferred in exchange for 99 years rent free leases on the following bases:- Newfoundland,
Eastern Bahamas, Southern Jamaica, Western Saint Lucia, the Gulf of Paria, Antigua, British Guyana, the Great Sound and Castle Harbour, Bermuda, and the south and eastern coasts of Newfoundland. The vessels concerned had been mothballed for several years, and were stated by Admiral Stark as not vital for the security of the United States. Certainly, this was a generous act by FDR, but please don't try to claim that it was an altruistic one.
As to the air bases, where is your evidence for this? Incidentally, US aircraft based in the UK were hardly protecting British asses, but building up for the air assault on occupied Europe.
