The Suez Canal was not significant in WW2, as British convoys went round the Cape. The Iraq oilfields, of course, were. The Axis historically struggled to maintain the forces they had in North Africa. There were few roiad and rail links, and the ports were inadequate. Moreover, the Royal Navy & RAF were something of a nuisance.

There were a few in NW Europe, although they had been converted to AA tanks by then. These would have been ones which were never shipped out, so as far as the African ones are concerned you are probably right.
