  1. Easy to say with the benefit of hindsight. With the horrors of WW1 fresh in mind, appeasement was hugely popular with the populations of both France & Britain.

  2. Andre Maginot hardly made a career in politics out of it. He died in January 1932.

  3. The Deuxieme Bureau had given the French military a vastly inflated (and hugely inaccurate) estimate of the number of troops that the Germans had sent into the Rhineland. Gamelin informed his government that to expel them would require general mobilisation, which the government were not willing to countenance.
