Actually, HF/DF detection of U-boat transmissions gave the allies a much better idea of the locations of German boats, and made diversionary routeing of convoys possible.

@CCoburn3 Sadly, this person appears on a number of sites. Generally, his comments have little to do with much, other than knee-jerk reactions to anything remotely critical of the US.

Sorry, but whilst the RCN performed outstandingly, 'most of the heavy lifting' is something of an exaggeration.

King was the head of the US Navy. Should he really have needed a politician's help, when the wisdom of convoys had been clearly demonstrated late in WW1 and in the first part of WW2? The US Navy certainly did have the resourses. Look at the Order of Battle of the US Atlantic Fleet in January, 1942. In particular, look at the number of destroyers.
