  1. 6th & 7th Australian Divisions were returned to Australia by convoy from Palestine late in January, 1942. 9th Australian remained with 8th Army until January, 1943, the Allies agreeing that until this happened additional US troops would go to Australia. The Darwin raid was on 19 February, 1942.
