  1. Hunt might be an intellectual giant, and prove to be the salvation of the UK, but those mad, staring, eyes do tend to be rather alarming, and indicative of a fanatic. As Cardinal Newman wrote, 'better for sun and moon to drop from Heaven, for the earth to fail, and for all the many millions on it to die of starvation in the most extreme agony... than that one soul... should commit one single venial sin, should tell one wilful untruth or should steal one poor farthing.' I suspect Hunt would have a similar approach to his convictions, whilst probably thinking that Newman didn't go nearly far enough.
