BOLTON, in Greater Manchester, although part of Lancashire in 1877. Still, it is encouraging that, in this modern world, even twerps can work a keyboard.

Did Lusitania, Mauretania, Adriatic, Aquitania, Olympic, Scharnhorst, Roma, Prinz Freidrich Wilhelm, President Cleveland, or any of, literally dozens of others, have such fitments?

  18. Californian wasn't carrying anything other than a 'mixed, general' cargo, at least according to the Boston shipping newspapers when she docked on 19 April. Californian's crew did see and report Titanic's flares to Captain Lord. For reasons which will never now be known, he chose to ignore them. Why would White Star choose to wreck either ship? Both were fully operational and at sea on 14 April, 1912. White Star lost £500,000 on the insurance for the Titanic, as well as their reputation for safety. How did that benefit them? Do please explain.

For example, a signal which would be recorded as 'Thanks for the good report dear old man John. I read you 559,' would actually have been sent as 'TNX FB RPRT DR OM JOHN UR 559.' What people have subsequently chosen to interpret as an insulting message fro Phillips was in fact simply a request to clear the frequency.
