@vksasdgaming9472 The same comment would apply to the height of internal bulkheads, which in Titanic were higher than Board of Trade rules required.

Actually, the relationship between H & W and White Star dated back as far as 1869, when Thomas Ismay was approached by Gustav Schwabe and his nephew, Gustav Wolff. Schwabe offered to finance White Star if in turn White Star would have their ships built by Wolff's company. You really shouldn't make things up when they are easy to check, you know. Nor is your reference to 'quality standards' accurate.

The unspoken Law of the Sea did make such demands, and ships which picked up the distress calls did respond to them.
