  7. Perhaps you are unaware of this, but Ismay was not a marine architect. The height of the bulkheads, and the number of lifeboats, were both the subject of Board of Trade regulations. Titanic's designer, actually Alexander Carlisle, ensured that she more than complied with both. Had he not, she (and Olympic) would not have received Board of Trade certification. There were suggestions that a Titanic officer did shoot himself, but the name was not known. I believe that Cameron later apologised to Murdoch's family.

  8. You do know that 'Titanic' was a movie, not a documentary, I hope? You have fallen for the propaganda produced by W. R. Hearst, who was a personal and business enemy of Ismay. Then as now, those who control the media control the debate.

  12. No-one pressurised Smith to try to 'break a record.' Both Ismay & Smith were well aware that the turbine driven Mauretanias were at least three kmots faster. The supposed conversation never occurred.

  14.  @Bilski86  'Mr Andrew’s said it best “she’s made of iron so. I assure she can.” ' Thomas Andrews is not known to have said any such thing, although Victor Garber did in a movie. I believe Ismay himself said he turned his back to avoid watching the ship sink. But even so, the ship broke in half because, as the forward end slipped below the sea and the stern lifted, that stern was subjected to stresses far above anything for which the ship had been designed. A number of others, including Lightoller, also thought that the ship did not break. Perhaps because they had more pressing matters, like staying alive, to concern them at the time? The Olympic design was not faulty. It simply was not expected that five, or possibly six, compartments would be compromised in one wholly unpredictable accident. Neither White Star nor Harland and Wolff ever advertised the ship as 'unsinkable.' Had the suggestion ever been put to the real Thomas Andrews, then he might well have said “she’s made of iron. I assure you she can sink.”

  18.  @SamanthaDavies1536  Let's see, then: A White Star official visits the mother of one of Titanic's crew. Official : 'Mrs. Jones. I regret to inform you that your son died when RMS Titanic sank. Mrs. Jones, 'Oh dear, I am heart broken.' Official : 'We believe that the ship sank in one piece.' Mrs.Jones : 'Did it? Oh well.That's all right then.' Is such a conversation really credible? The fact is, the ship sank and many people died. Whether the ship was whole at the time of sinking is not the issue. By the way, 'cleverness' is not necessary to know that the ship broke in two. It is common knowledge. Nor is it particularly smart to state that stress on the hull as it rose from the water, not faulty construction, was the cause of the split. But, of course, you aren't actually interested. You simply seek to post personal attacks for the sake of them.

  19. No. The number of lifeboats was not reduced. Alexander Carlisle had designed the Olympics to be capable of carrying more, up to 48 I believe, on the assumption that this might be necessary if Board of Trade regulations were amended to cater for such large liners. As the regulations were not changed, neither was the number of lifeboats fitted.
