  1. Clearly, you enjoyed the Conspiracy video you watched, and swallows both whole and unquestioningly? Had you done anby actual reading at all, you would have known that Astor and 'that other dude' (Guggenheim) had never expressed their views about the Fed., whilst Straus had gone on public record as a supporter. At least, until a myth was invented about all three financiers in the 1990s, of course. If Titanic had always been designed to sink, how would you explain Olympic, by the way?

  2.  @yogaflame30  If only two forward compartments were affected, the bows would not sink low enough in the water for water to flow into the third or fourth compartments. The ship would be in no danger of sinking.

  10.  @carkotta  Please provide your source for your conviction. Generally, the opinions of people working in a shipyard, such as labourers or rivetters, etc., or their families, are not expert ones. Similar limitations apply to the views of a Booking Clerk, as apparently addressed to a passenger. The nearest to any such claim from White Star or Harland & Wolff was either a reference to the Olympics being 'practically unsinkable' or 'as near to being unsinkable as modern shipbuildings techniques can make them.' Neither of which confirm your claim.

'That Captain Smith believed the Titanic and the Olympic to be absolutely unsinkable is recalled by a man who had a conversation with the veteran commander on a recent voyage of the Olympic. The talk was concerning the accident in which the British warship Hawke rammed the Olympic. "The commander of the Hawke was entirely to blame," commented a young officer who was in the group. "He was 'showing off' his warship before a throng of passengers and made a miscalculation." Captain Smith smiled enigmatically at the theory advanced by his subordinate, but made no comment as to this view of the mishap. "Anyhow," declared Captain Smith, "the Olympic is unsinkable, and the Titanic will be the same when she is put in commission."Why," he continued, "either of these vessels could be cut in halves and each half would remain afloat indefinitely. The non-sinkable vessel has been reached in these two wonderful craft." "I venture to add," concluded Captain Smith, "that even if the engines and boilers of these vessels were to fall through their bottoms the vessels would remain afloat." ' So the allegation is based upon something an unnamed individual claimed Smith had said, which only came to light after the sinking. The last two paragraphs alone amply demonstrate how much credibility the claim had. Atill, as we know, if it was in a newspaper it must be true, mustn't it?

  20. Put simply, with two compartments holed Titanic would have survived. As Olympic had in 1911 when two compartments were holed in the collision with HMS Hawke.
