Wrong. The raid did take place as described. The aircraft were launched from the converted light battlecruiser HMS Furious, which had a flying off deck forward, and a landing deck aft, but still retained her original bridge structure. Argus, the first 'proper' carrier, only commissioned in September, 1918. Furious was further rebuilt between the wars, and operated as an effective carrier for most of WW2.
