@robertandrews6555 Of course it will. It is beyond dispute that someone give authority, however slight, will automatically abuse it. The authority that is proposed here, for, doubtless the best of reasons (as it always is, of course) will certainly be abused.

@StarDrop-c1n But they are also depriving many more pensioners just over the benefits limit of it, when that group does need it.

@InsomniacShrub You don't wish to debate so serious an issue in a civilised manner, then?
1
@tomalebine2778 Presumably, you are thinking of your own character?

Sir Keir, after saying that he supported the idea, nobly said that MPs would have a free vote. As is the norm with MPs, it is likely that many will follow the lead of their Dear Leader, and make sure that he knows it. After all the prospect of a junior Ministerial post isn't something to be sniffed at over such a trivial matter, is it?

@tomalebine2778 Who thought the microwave was a 'slippery slope' please?
1
@tomalebine2778 'the people of the 1950s who thought it was going to ruin real cooking, and people who thought it was a robot that was going to take over the world.' I don't think anyone ever thought that a microwave was an evil robot. Hasn't it occurred to you that ending a life does not really compare with how well-cooked a baked potato is? Oh, and I wonder why people were ever doubtful about something as entirely beneficial as Thalidomide?

@shazAnddollysausage Fine, but how will you respond when the concept of assisted dying is expanded, as it certainly will if other countries who introduced it are anything to go by?
1
A personal choice yes. But this will become a decision imposed by the state.

@3llusiiv331 'it cant and wont happen its very restricted.' Just as there were restrictions in Canada? I admire your confidence, in the face of evidence to the contrary.

Perhaps the Judge will don a black wig?
1
@lordbottaro4549 Perhaps you confuse cynicism for stupidity? The sentences following the riots, effectively imposed by the Prime Minister in advance, rather demonstrated that the judiciary will do exactly what a hard line government instructs it to do. Especially when that hard line government is also hard left.
1
@tomalebine2778 But accurate. Look at what is happening in Canada.
1
@tomalebine2778 You can hardly accuse someone of a 'dumb response' when your is on a level of dumbness all of its own.
1
@3llusiiv331 To be fair, Rachel Reeves has taken the first small steps already.

Like the 'safeguards' in Canada?
