  1. I think I can give one possible explanation for the “grey” metaphor. Seal was living in England where some days are terribly grey and often rainy. Also a movie and comic book metaphor is to portray humdrum life as black and white and grey. So kissed by a rose is what happens when you fall in love - colour and love, touching and changing you and how you see the world.
