  2.  @lestrem11  Ah you "know" who I've heard of... come on... you can do better than that! If you want to say Lineker's profile "is ALL about the BBC", you'd have to say the same or more so for Alan Sugar, "who no-one would have heard of" if it were not for the Apprentice!... Never mind his business success in the 70s though to the early 90s with Amstrad... Who remembers Sugar defeating Sinclair at his own game, buying-out his firm?... He 'solely' owes his prominence to the BBC! That's why when he frequently makes genuinely partisan statements both on legacy and social media, which the incumbent government and their supporting press agree with, they have complete meltdowns and attempt to 'cancel' him... oh, wait... never mind... The fact is Lineker has been a major sports star since the 80s, when I think of him I don't think MoTD, I primarily recall his top tier goal scoring England international career, he's in the same league of football stardom as Kane and Rooney are in recent times and Charlton a generation or so beforehand, the same cannot be said for Hodge by any stretch of the imagination. In all seriousness Sugar probably does owe more to the BBC for his current notoriety than Lineker, as unless you lived in the time period when he genuinely was an prominent and important businessman and perhaps owned Amstrad products, in particular his computer lines (as I did in all regards), few would know who he is or why he has any degree of fame. Whereas with football which has enormously greater appeal and reach, both current and past great stars of the game are widely known, even by those who have little interest in it.
