@markkelly9621 Was it as tight as you expected?

@markkelly9621 False narrative. What we do know is that turnout was down 7.4%, engagement was low as people believed the outcome was a foregone conclusion and there was significant tactical voting to unseat Tories.

@markkelly9621 ”Labour did really badly” “Labour’s position is actually very precarious” That’s the self evidently false narrative. Labour’s position isn’t remotely precarious, as the Tories are repeating their post 1997 mistakes, with even the sole moderate and sensible leadership candidate Tom Tugendhat lurching to the populist right. Farage’s racket was pretty much at peak support, he’s no doubt lost some since due to his recent controversies. It’s not inconceivable that the Lib Dems could form the next official opposition.

@markkelly9621 Which wilfully ignores the low turnout due to the fact the electorate overwhelmingly believed the outcome was a foregone conclusion (the Tories entrenched this belief with their ‘super majority’ campaigning), and the significant tactical voting in (then) Tory incumbent constituencies. The only voters who turned out on mass were for Farage’s racket, yet they could only just squeeze five MPs. Which will be their top end unless there’s significant electoral reform. Labour’s position is firm, there’s no viable opposition, they’ll almost certainly win another decent sized majority in 2029, perhaps again in 2034 or be in coalition with the Lib Dems. The Tories are way off from being a sensible moderate party again. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the latter half of the 2030s once they got themselves back to some state of normalcy, they run on a pro EU Customs Union and Single Market or even full re-join platform and re-enter government.
