“I want that one” A few moments later… “I don’t like it”

The economy and living standards will certainly get far, far worse. Expecting them to get better is quite a stretch. It’ll end with whomever succeeds him immediately crawling back to the IMF, begging bowl in hand.

@crown9413 Even if that’s true it’s a red herring, public spending was massively reduced between 2010 and 2019 compared to 1997 to 2009. It didn’t work, the economy at best stagnated, public services were decimated and it bred resentment.

@a7seton562 Now those who fell for it and voted for “that one” are inevitably regretting their decision.
7
@crown9413 In real terms it was reduced massively as were public services, ‘the figures’ do not take into account population growth, inflation or economic growth (or the lack therefor of). Claiming austerity is a myth is to ask people to ignore the evidence of their eyes and ears.

@utubebroadcaster One led to the other

@charly7937 Or curing ailment by ‘dispatching’ the patient…

@vinezero Argentina hasn’t had a well functioning economy since the rightwing junta took power almost 50 years ago. It has had to go begging to the IMF and experienced hyperinflation multiple times. It’s a selective memory or lack of knowledge to solely blame one form of government for the half century of mismanagement.
4
@tjmarx Or to sum it up in a single word “populism”.
3
@ziskador Keep telling yourself that. I’m sure it’ll be comforting whilst your quality of life goes from bad to much, much worse.

“Jam for tomorrow”

@SA-ff9uc Well they evidently do and despite all the prophecies of doom, the Eurozone is still here, functioning well and acting as a reserve currency.
2
And the moon is made of out cheese… /s
2
@jfm148 Selective memory? What preceded and occurred between those dates? Did those rightwing juntas provide Argentina with a well functioning economy or society? Did they not experience hyperinflation too?

What Greece had to do is incompatible to the actions of this wreaking-ball.

Not unilaterally
1
@vakuzar Another tax write-off, these ‘donations’ are transparent.
1
@Agent-lr4ez They’ll be going back to the IMF begging bowl in hand, not paying back what they already owe.
1
@tjmarx More of the same mantra.
1
@crown9413 Yes and up is down, black is white, east is west….
1
You’re selectively recalling the last near 50 years, Argentina economic malaise began with the rightwing junta, it’s been begging to the IMF and experienced hyperinflation multiple times under all types of government over that period.
1
@charly7937 Somthing the Argentinians are experiencing in practice.
1
@tjmarx Comparing pico economics at the personal level to that of macro economics at a nation is disingenuous at best.
1
@ihl0700677525 What do Greece, Spain and Italy all have in common? They’re full EU and Eurozone members (not unilaterally using another country’s currency), they’re all in the receipt of EU aid and / or bailouts plus EU fiscal oversight. Argentina is alone.
1
@tjmarx Concepts which are irrelevant to at the macro level.
