Germany essentially got somewhat lucky first time around. It started off in the young there. That start those early stages helped the overall figures back then. It helped buy some time to get the message through and to get older/vulnerable people locked away. And this virus is a strange beast as much of Europe/definitely including Germany haven't been overrun by the fast spreading Delta variant until now. It's far harder to slow down than Alpha. A lot of how this virus pans out is just sheer pot luck.

If a vaccine stops death as Oxford does no matter what current variant it comes up against. Then clearly that's never a failure. Also Oxford are the most thorough here they've done proper trials and studies on the South African variant. Other vaccines such as Pfizer right now have only done lab work when it to comes to SA variant. No proper studies as of yet. So it's not like-for-like in terms of that.

Which we have to assume isn't good... against the South African variant in question here. :D :D Because... no tests whatsoever have been conducted regarding the SA variant and the Russian vaccine. It's an even bigger gamble South Africa using that one.

@qjtvaddict True. But this really isn't complicated. The basics are very obvious. People should have especially kept well away from the old and/or vulnerable all throughout the pandemic. Don't gather. But hey in some Countries not enough people do those things well. People shouldn't have protested. Held raves. Held house parties. It's amazing how no amount of deaths. Will stop some people doing what they want when they want. Human beings capacity to believe it won't happen to them or even their loved ones is crazy unbelievable.

I think it needs to mentioned that many Countries aren't thoroughly reporting what is going on and what has gone on within their Country. That's my belief. And sometimes it won't even be done on purpose. Their ability to record and collate infections and deaths etc just aren't as good and as thorough as some other Countries systems are.

I believe one of the good reasons why both USA and UK have done bad. Is that on the whole we are stubborn people. Who like to rebel. Who aren't afraid to rebel. We aren't afraid to question authority. We are people who don't like to be dictated too. No matter what the reasons. Many people in my Country and yours don't just instantly and automatically swallow up and take for granted what their Governments and experts are saying is correct. Being so very "free". Isn't great when it comes to covid! Too many people have rebelled. Ignored rules and restrictions. Covid19 infection clearly loves that! And hopes for that.

There are some strange decisions going on within some Countries. South African authorities don't want to stop death I guess. Because that is what Oxford does. Also Oxford actually has so far been proved better than other vaccines at cutting transmission. With a 67% reduction.

@louisedemarillac777 Generally you are right. But it works in preventing serious illness and death. No one has proven anything different on that.

@PandaFarm-ZA Because it will stop you dying. A good reason I think.

@Hdb77778 Another point to mention. Countries that already had systems in place before the pandemic ways to keep an eye on their people have generally seemingly done better. Places with highly invasive surveillance systems already in place. A bad thing in some ways. But good for covid. Fast and easy ways to watch and trace people all ready in place. Also your more totalitarian Countries out there generally have an upper hand when it comes to covid. In that the people are more likely to do as they are told. Be less likely to rebel. When it comes to rules and restrictions. Bottom line making comparisons. And trying to get to the bottom of it all. Is very complicated to say the least. There is so much to it!

@sve5543 Smart people on places like youtube. Don't be daft. :D You don't have to be some esteemed professor to be deemed as being smart. Smart comes in many different forms. No one person is great in all areas. Some people have a lot of common sense. Some are very logical. Others are your IQ test smart. And so on and so forth.

Haha now that's funny. Nothing of note is proved. It stops death. No failure. And we are talking about one variant here the SA variant. Most other vaccines including the Russian one have done zero tests so far against the SA variant.

@luisfigointer You have no basis for that. And are completely wrong in some of what you say. I suggest you go and read all the info on the Oxford vaccine again. But no problem no one can make you have it. Not at least in most if not all Countries. I don't think anyone has made it mandatory so far.
