  9. Don't know much about cars, do you? You should read once in a while. Kia is not trying to be high end sports car. It's just a great car. Period. JD Power says they're the best company in the world for initial quality. Two years running! And they back it up with the best warranty in the industry. Badge snobs will be badge snobs. This car is not for them.

  10. Ellipsis....Actually, you're right, in that that is their intention for the US market. It's just to show what Kia can do. But overseas, this car sells VERY well, and that's why it was redesigned.

  11.  @skyforce2132  The K9 (what we call it here in Korea) is an awesome car! Not quite as good as the S Class. But it is half the price. You could actually buy the K9, a fully loaded Sorento, and a new Kia Soul for the price of the S Class. Kias for the whole family!

  15. I know this is just my opinion, but this car is beautiful! Way nicer design than the C Class or the Audi. At least as good as the 3 Series. Not quite Alpha good, but still, really nice.

  18.  @sunha2133  Yes, they certainly were. There's some significant differences today though. First, the Borrego was not a very fresh or modern vehicle, even new. Second, it was introduced to the US at a time when people were burning their large SUV's because of gas prices. The climate is right for this new Kia. It should do very well.

  27. Too bad they didn't give you an upper trim to review. That has more features and feels almost luxurious in its' trimmings. Another quirk you didn't mention is that this engine runs on the Atkinson cycle and will likely be quite efficient.

  30. Mike...Because of the very low turnover rate in the US, they want inventory to be streamlined. Here in Korea, and other markets, we get the V8 and rwd options. Blame American consumers, I guess.

  31.  @mikey_n_vegas  Honestly speaking Mike, to the rest of the world, it seems that the United States doesn't care much about saving fuel. We pay 8 bucks a gallon here in Korea. Fuel can cost more than your car payment. The US is a unique market.

  36. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I just HATE this whole dash/console in this car. To me, cheap looking black plastic covered in grime all the time, just doesn't say, "luxury car". Give me good ol' fashioned metal, wood and leather!

  38.  @washuai  Well, just sounded funny to me, because I know that they've discountinued the 7 sp. dct in all Sonatas in other markets. So, I checked the US site to confirm. It is, in fact, the corporate 8 speed. I guess it pays to check eh?

  39. Doug is totally wrong about the pricing for this. Compare comparable features and the price is tens of thousands of dollars in difference. Furthermore, this is frankly, nicer than its' German rivals, imo. He kept saying what a good "luxury" car this is, like that's a bad thing. Duh! You won't find any shiny black cheap plastic in here; unlike the Germans! I really like that Genesis marches to its' own drum! Refreshing.

It really is garbage. ALL shiny black plastic in the front. Not luxurious at all really. You're stuck in the past my man. Maybe educate yourself a little before you make such erroneous statements. :)

  43.  @MrBooster999  I agree with you! IMO, Benz makes the best cars in their competitive classes. But the K9 is way more premium than the new C and on par (at least) with the E. Don't forget, this Kia is sized like the SWB models the 7 Series, S Class, and A8. You should judge it accordingly.

  45. Usually Doug is better informed about the vehicles he reviews. Smartstream G indicates it's their new engine family and it's gasoline powered. There's also a Smartstream D, which is diesel powered. X Line is just one off trim for this car, which is the "off road" version and gets a slight increase in ground clearance and a unique paint color. There ya go Doug! You're welcome!

  46. xdsddlord.....No. Hyundai and Kia are separate brands that have the same owner. "mainstream" cars that are about equal. Genesis is the luxury arm of HMG, Hyundai Motor Group.
