@Djeispark I'm very sorry to hear you suffered horrific childhood abuse. As I made clear in my post, as adults we all have choices, and whatever an abuser's history there's no excuse for their vile crimes.
But if you have studied the subject of abuse (as I suspect you have), you'll have heard of something called 'the cycle of abuse', ie abuse is frequently carried down generations of the same family, as if it were genetic. Of course it isn't genetic, it is learned behaviour, and your story proves it is possible to break that cycle.
My worry is if we simply dismiss the worst dregs of humanity as 'monsters', and don't look at context or seek to understand how their development was warped, we are then passive and don't believe we can identify or address causes and environments in which that kind of horrific behaviour thrives. Therefore we just shrug and accept a proportion of people will be violent abusers and killers, as though it were inevitable. I don't believe its inevitable. But we need to study abusers far more closely than we currently do if we are to glean critical information about them, and what better opportunity to do that, than when they are imprisoned for life?
I'm a great believer in getting value for money for the taxpayer funding these scumbags bed and board. I think they should be studied like lab rats, to better understand them, with a view to recognising the red flags and preventing innocents becoming their victims.
