  1. It's only being so cheerful that keeps you going! It's not a submarine - it's a submersible. Today the coastguard reports hearing a repetitive banging noise, which it's hoped is confirmation the inhabitants of Titan are alive, and sending a message by hitting the walls of the vessel. Their situation is unimaginable - I can't believe people pay £250,000 to get into that tiny tin can, barefoot, and sink miles under the sea - for what? Images of the Titanic wreck, that you can see more clearly on YouTube videos! These millionaires' trips have been presented to the public as though they are totally safe. This crisis shows there was always considerable risk attached! Five years ago an ex employee of OceanGate took them to court over their safety record. It seems spookily prescient today...

You can see the Titanic wreck through a small porthole (which the former OceanGate employee I mentioned earlier also judged unsafe for such deep conditions), but yes, they mostly view it on laptops - more low tech equipment, like the X-Box console that controls the submersible! The banging noises that were identified by the coastguard may not be coming from the 'Titan' at all - many experts say its highly unlikely they are! There are many ships in that area, and all make strange noises, all the time. The 'Titan' s made of carbon fibre not metal - making any such noise even less feasible. I seriously doubt the non OceanGate employees who got inside the 'Titan' on Sunday, had any idea it could go missing, and not be traced by rescuers for days - and sadly, possibly longer.
