@NavajoSunBeauty That's exactly why the children's deaths at their evil father's hands were prolonged, filled with terror and totally horrific. Whether the axe attacks by Josh Powell killed them or not is pretty irrelevant in context - the point is they suffered terribly in their last moments alive, thanks to their sadistic, sub-human father.
Josh Powell knew police were closing in on him for murdering the children's mother Susan, and he was not going to go to prison for the next 50 years. Nor was he going to let his hated in-laws, the children's loving grandparents, continue to enjoy custody of them and raise them with the stability and love they so desperately needed. So he selfishly took them with him - and did it in the cruellest possible way.
This was a failure by the system, specifically the family courts, to protect two defenceless children from a father who not only had a long history of domestic abuse, he was prime suspect in their mother's murder!
Josh Powell should not have been given any access, or allowed within 100 miles of those little boys. I am so sick of hearing about 'fathers' rights'. What about childrens' rights to be safe, not abused, terrorised and finally killed by their parent? The law was so busy respecting Josh Powell's supposed 'rights' as a father - to access children he didn't give a damn about - it forgot about the children's rights not to be put in danger. Lessons should be learned from this outrage, but I doubt they will be.

@NavajoSunBeauty Hi - It wasn't my intention to appear to be arguing/disagreeing with you, I'm sorry it came over that way. I wanted to add greater context to your accurate post about the children's cause of death.
As a journalist and long time campaigner against domestic abuse, accuracy is important to me too. I'm hyper alert to the minimisation/justification of such heinous domestic crimes, which is seen with disturbing regularity in online forum comments.
I feel it's critical in a case as complex as this one people know the full story. Though even when all the facts are known, a small minority will still relate more to the perpetrator, than to the victims.
I've even seen it argued Josh Powell loved his children, and never would have killed them if only the 'poor guy' had been given full custody as was his 'right' as a father. Yes, there are people out there who argue a wife and child killer was a suitable person to have sole, unsupervised access to two little boys! The misogyny among a percentage of people runs deep. I'm British, so sadly didn't see the show, what was your verdict?

@RynoKnarr14 Josh Powell brutally murdered his two little boys for entirely selfish reasons.
He had vilely murdered their mother Susan and knew police were closing in on him, so he intended to kill himself to avoid spending the next 50 years in jail.
As he had decided on suicide, he also decided to murder his children at the same time out of sheer spite. He resented his late wife's parents getting custody of the kids after her death, and wasn't going to let them live happy lives raised by their loving grandparents.
He had nothing to lose as he was going to escape justice by committing suicide. So he murdered a couple of innocent, defenceless, (and thanks to him motherless) children to get 'revenge' on Susan's poor parents. Josh Powell didn't think they had suffered enough from him abusing, murdering and hiding the body of their beloved daughter - he wanted to deliver yet more horror and agony by viciously killing those sweet grandchildren.
The system failed Susan Powell and her family, because Josh Powell should not have been given ANY access to those children, as the prime suspect in her murder! Because the family courts stupidly ruled he had 'rights' as a father, they ignored two little boys' rights to be safe and unharmed by the dangerous, abusive man who had killed their mother. The courts allowed Josh Powell the chance to commit that evil double child murder.
Wherever the children's souls are now, they are not with Josh Powell - he's in hell, along with his equally warped father and brother who helped him murder and dispose of poor Susan.
