Actually Baldwin absolutely DID come forward and 'act devastated' because I don't doubt he was devastated. He didn't deliberately set out to kill that woman! Whatever he is, he's not a monster. How would you feel if you were unintentionally responsible for another human being's death? And what's more, a likeable, popular human being you were friends with? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
But obviously Alec Baldwin is a controversial/unpopular figure for some, because of his politics and 'take no prisoners' attitude.
The question here is not about intent, but negligence and recklessness. I think it's pretty rich of Alec Baldwin to suggest he's only being held accountable because he is wealthy. HE pulled the trigger, and HE was a producer on the movie, so at least partly responsible for the almighty F-up which put a loaded gun into his hand.
There are rumours of cost-cutting on the film, which put its cast and crew under unacceptable pressures and possibly played a critical role in the tragedy. For the sake of the young woman who lost her life, and for ALL movie sets in which a death like this should never be possible, there must be a full and frank investigation and the person/people responsible held to account.
