Sadly you are right, the parents were exceptionally indulgent with him - his mom Lisa worked full time so he didn't have to and could remain a student until 28, she paid everything for him - college fees, rent, bills, car, and spending money. He was a grown man and lived on hand outs his entire life, never earning a single cent. He was supposedly training to be a cosmetic surgeon - who on earth would ever trust him to wield a scalpel over them while under general anaesthetic?! He's beyond creepy. There are many of these cases recently, of a spoiled man child murdering indulgent parents - Grant Amato and recently Chandler Halderson. All were still being supported by parents when grown men in their twenties, and all killed them when they threatened to end that financial support. The bad parenting definitely played a role in the tragedy - spoil your kids and you are doing them and yourself no favours!

If he was remembering what happened, he was enjoying it - the entire purpose of his farcical not guilty plea was to have a full jury trial, at which he got to re-live his disgusting violence against the two people who loved him most in the world. The only time during the entire trial he showed any emotion was when his college room mate/boyfriend took the stand. That was purely selfish, because they can never be together after what he did. This freak cares about nobody but himself. He must have been highly dangerous for many years, it's tragic his parents didn't realise and get him psychiatric help.

The blood spots down the stair carpet are from when he carried his mom Lisa's severed head downstairs, to boil it in a pot on the stove. He attacked and killed her on the upstairs landing - you can see a big blood stain on the carpet, and a pile of her clothes where he cut them off her dead body. You can even see one of her rings beside her cut clothing - he must have pulled it off her finger after killing her. Police think he called his mom upstairs when she stepped through the door, telling her he was hurt (he was - he badly cut his hands stabbing his dad to death), and she dropped the shopping and rushed up to him, to be stabbed too. I pray she never saw her beloved husband's body, or knew what happened to him. This crime is beyond evil, they look such a sweet, loving couple in photos and the daughters/stepdaughters adored them.

Actually his dad was in pretty good shape for his age, and definitely not a lazy, entitled couch potato blimp like fat-boy. I doubt he'd fit into his murdered father's clothes if he smeared himself in Vaseline!

No, he called his mom upstairs (police think he pretended to be hurt and that's why she dropped the shopping), and he stabbed her to death up there on the landing. That's why there's that huge blood stain on the carpet, and her clothes are piled up on the floor - he cut them off her dead body with scissors. I pray she never saw her husband's body, or his blood in the bedroom, and knew what happened to him. The blood spots on the stairs are from when he carried her severed head downstairs to boil it in a pot on the stove. This crime truly beggars belief.

Anyone else spot the suicide note Joel Guy Jr drafted on a post it @4:23? The scumbag killer planned to destroy his parents' bodies and burn their house down, hoping everyone would believe his dad murdered his mom then killed himself and set fire to the family home. Joe Guy Jr was loved and adored by his sweet parents - how on Earth did they raise such a monster??? Joel Sr's daughters (Lisa's stepdaughters) came across as such lovely, decent people on the witness stand. Yet their murdering half-brother is an abomination!

@Nmsss760 There had to be red flags in his behaviour long before he committed this horrific double murder. I bet his parents were concerned about his weirdness, but didn't want to admit it or send him for the psychiatric help he needed, because they didn't want to face the fact he was not right in the head. He looks like there's something genetically amiss - Joel Guy's daughters by his first wife are normal, pleasant looking women and all have empathy and loved their parents. This is the only child of Joel and Lisa - and he's ugly as sin, inside and out. Seems somehow Joel and Lisa's genes were not a good fit. It beggars belief they loved him from birth, but he never loved them back. He had to have been a strange child.

@jessev5542 You're right, we don't know the whole story - though there's been no evidence presented that these were anything but loving (overly) supportive parents. But my point stands - the 'murderer as abuse victim' narrative that until recent years was the overwhelming assumption/view and pretty much universally pushed by celebrated psychologists, has proved to be an unreliable model. Many killers are not worms that turned after an abusive childhood, but the opposite - dangerously entitled adults as a result of an over indulgent upbringing.
