A Dodo channel video gives more details - that little dog Chucky was elderly, 13 years old, and had been in the pool doing doggie paddle for just over 34 minutes when rescue pit bull Jessie managed finally to pull him out. It's a miracle Chucky didn't drown long before Jessie was able to save him. Jessie hates the water, you see her flinch every time she gets splashed, so her bravery was even more amazing. She was later given a 'hero' award from the rescue charity that her owners adopted her from. The owners Byron and Melissa have now installed a cover over their pool. I find it astonishing they left their much loved dogs, one elderly and one who hates water, with access to an open pool. Pools can even kill wild animals that fall in - I hope people see this and cover their pool when not in use. Pools cause so many totally avoidable human and animal tragedies every year!

  2. I can't believe the owners left their two dogs home alone with access to an open swimming pool - knowing one dog was elderly and other other hated water! You MUST cover a pool when not in use - even wildlife can fall in and drown!
