Comments by "Charles Eye" (@TheCharleseye) on "L.A. Is Creating Traffic Jams to Push Commuters to Ride Bikes and Rail" video.
Stop and go traffic is the biggest contributor to LA's smog. Creating more traffic jams increases the amount of smog, exponentially. Seems LA is a beacon of hypocrisy.

AmericanNohbuddy ™ Nobody is going to give up their cars. All they are doing is ensuring the same number of cars spend more time on the road, in stop and go conditions. Their intentions don't matter. The results are what matter.

AmericanNohbuddy ™ Well, they could have focused on that but instead, the powers that be decided to hold onto that money and instead just make traffic worse for the taxpayers. Most politicians don't care about making anything better. They just care about looking like they do, so they can get re-elected. Fortunately, this ridiculous plan is blowing up in their faces.

AmericanNohbuddy ™ Yes. People with lots of money choose areas - that afford them the opportunity to make more money - to build businesses. People with little to no money move to those places to try to get a piece of the pie (and mostly don't do any better than they would have anywhere else). The rich keep getting richer and building more shiny things to attract their cheap labor force. The cheap labor force keeps showing up to be used and inevitably priced out of living in the very city they work in (that's those commuters you talked about). All because most people forget everything they learned in high school Econ the minute they hear they could be making twice as much money as they are now (in a place where it costs five times as much to survive). How exactly is that a defense for anything you've said, or even a rebuttal to anything I've said?

AmericanNohbuddy ™ The obvious answer is to stop building super cities that are packed so full of people that all of humanities problems exist in a highly concentrated area that can't be managed. This reduces pollution, crime, poverty and every other problem, simultaneously. But yeah, playing with the structure of the lanes to make more bike routes is a cute idea... Hey, maybe that's the real objective. Maybe LA is just trying to make itself such a horribly inconvenient place to live that people will finally start leaving en masse. Now THAT is a solution I can get behind. Let's hope more cities start doing the same.

Miatacrosser If you think LA doesn't have smog - simply because it's better now than it used to be - then you clearly haven't spent a lot of time outside of LA. Those of us who live in the rest of the Country notice the horrible air quality as soon as we get anywhere near that place. It's disgusting.
