What was that last part? Stronger gun laws? How would that have helped? An adult in good legal standing bought the handgun (legal) and gave it to the kid (illegal). What extra laws would have stopped this? It's gotta be painful to people that this is a high profile case and they can't scream "BaN tHe WaR wEaPoNs!!! again, in regards to this one.

@Triggered Liberal Arthropod You're going to need to expand on that. If someone pries open a lockbox and steals a gun, the owner has technically failed to keep their gun secured, haven't they?

@Triggered Liberal Arthropod So, in other words, the easiest way to avoid being charged after the fact is to buy a cheap lockbox, destroy it, and then tell the cops you had it secured. Doesn't sound like a law that is going to affect the right people. You'll mostly be jailing grandmas who don't keep their finger on the pulse of gun legislation.

@Triggered Liberal Arthropod I'm not saying otherwise. Let me clarify. Someone chooses not to store their gun properly. Someone else breaks in and steals their gun. Upon discovering the theft, the gun owner runs to harbor freight, buys a cheap lockbox, damages it and then calls the police to report the theft. Alternatively, in the case of a handgun, one could simply say that they had the gun secured in a portable safe with which the burglar absconded.
