@ConvictedFelon2024 Interesting that you had to add the word "developed" to make your statement true. If there was a direct correlation - as you're implying - the US would have the highest rate of gun violence in the entire world, not just the developed world. After all, we don't just have the most guns, we have the most by a WIDE margin. The next ten Countries don't equal the number of civilian guns the US has. Current estimates have us at approximately 640 million civilian guns. That's roughly twice as many guns as there are US citizens. We should all be dead already, if there's a direct link between the number of guns and gun violence. Of course, there isn't a direct link, which is why people like you choose to jump back and forth between comparing global statistics to "developed world" statistics. It's the only way to make an argument.

@coolcat6303 It's specifically because I'm a law abiding gun owner that this kind of nonsense does bother me. I've lived my life on the straight and narrow. I've committed no offense greater than traveling above the speed limit my entire life. What do I get for my responsible behavior? I get to jump through hoop after hoop, having to prove time and time again that I am an upstanding citizen. Meanwhile, the only people these laws don't bother are those who don't want to own guns and, of course, criminals. See, neither you nor the guy who might shoot you one day is all that inconvenienced by these laws. - He's going to steal or buy a stolen gun. - You're going to continue to think the police will get there in time. - He's going to show up, rob you, and shoot you. - You're going to die. - He's going to run away. - The police are going to show up eventually and write up a report. - They'll run the serial number (if your killer leaves the gun behind, which he probably won't) and come up with the name of some guy who had his gun stolen five years prior. - Your case will go unsolved. - Your family will go public, demanding politicians enact more useless laws. - Your killer will laugh at the next anti-gun press conference ABC airs, while loading yet another stolen gun. - I'm going to be standing in line, waiting for a psych evaluation, a physical, and an IQ test to prove, yet again, that I should be allowed to buy a gun (even though I already have guns and have never harmed anyone). Thanks but I don't think I'll be subscribing to your brand of "logic" any time soon.

If he thinks that's a big deal, you can make a 12 gauge shotgun with about $15 in parts from the hardware store. We've always been able to build guns because we've always had the right to own and carry guns. You can't have the right to do something if you don't have the freedom to provide the means for yourself. The issue at hand is that more and more people seem to think it's the responsibility of the law abiding to prove that they are law abiding before being able to exercise a right. This is patently false, as is outlined by the very structure of our criminal justice system. I'm tired of being guilty until I prove myself innocent. We were never meant to live like that. Deal with the criminals, not the rest of us. If you can't figure out how to run a free society without trampling on the rights of regular citizens, step down from your position. You're unfit to govern in this Country. I'm talking to every politician and law enforcement officer in the US. Your limitations are clearly documented. Abide by the rules or find another job.
